Bend Beer Chase - Bend, Oregon
The Bend Beer Chase is a team running relay of approximately 57 miles held in and around Bend, Oregon. The route begins at Drake Park along the Deschutes River, follows scenic trails and rural back roads to Redmond and returns to Drake Park for a riverside beer festival with beers on tap.
Teams cover the course in 12 legs of varying length. Each team member on a six person team runs two legs; teams may size from one to six participants, and smaller teams split more legs per person.
Throughout the course, local breweries host exchange points. At each exchange, participants may choose to sample a 3 to 4 ounce pour from the sponsoring brewery; consumption is optional. Every team must designate a driver and that designated driver may not consume alcohol during the event.
There is an alternate participation option called the Keg Leg, a shorter 1.5 mile walking or running segment that does not require a formal team.
The event is produced by Cascade Relays and supports local charities through the Cascade Relays Foundation. Cascade Relays reports having donated more than $750,000 to Central Oregon nonprofits since 2008. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
