Event Overview

The Beecraigs Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event taking place at Beecraigs Country Park in West Lothian, Scotland. It follows the standard backyard ultra format.

Event Format

Runners start a 4.167-mile (6.7056 km) loop every hour, on the hour. The loop is a mix of forest trail, gravel paths, and undulating woodland tracks with approximately 150 meters of elevation gain. Participants must complete the loop within 60 minutes to start the next one. The race continues until only one runner remains, who must complete a final solo lap to be declared the winner.

Included with Entry

Entry covers race participation, timing, parking for one vehicle, access to a camping area for a tent or small shelter, a covered rest area, drinks and basic snacks for runners, toilets, live results, lap tracking, and a memento for all participants who do not finish (DNF). The winner receives a trophy and free entry to the following year's event.

Schedule and Location

The event starts on April 25, 2026. The venue opens at 7:00 am, with registration from that time. The race briefing is at 10:30 am, and the run starts at 11:00 am. It is held at Beecraigs Country Park in the Bathgate Hills.

Facilities and Rules

On-site facilities include toilets, hot and cold water, a covered rest marquee, and first aiders. A self-service table provides water, squash, tea, coffee, fruit, and snacks. Runners must bring their own food and fuel. Compulsory kit includes a head torch, chest torch, or waist torch, and hi-vis or reflective clothing for after dark. Runners may only receive support between laps, not during them. The race proceeds in almost all conditions, only being cancelled if the park ranger deems the site unsafe due to severe weather.
