Beast of the Blacks
The event takes place in the Black Mountains of Wales, starting and finishing at Longtown Hall. It offers three trail running distances: 11 miles, 20 miles, and 40 miles. The 40-mile route is a reverse of the 20-mile loop.
The course is marked and includes marshals. Participants will encounter forest trails, mountain terrain, river crossings, and views. The event is canicross friendly for dogs over 12 months, which must be kept on a lead.
Checkpoints provide food and drink, catering to various dietary requirements. Post-race refreshments, including homemade cake and sandwiches, are available. A mandatory kit list includes items like a waterproof jacket and trousers, a race vest, a base layer, a head torch, a whistle, and a reusable cup. Kit checks are conducted.
Participants receive a bespoke medal. Trophies are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as for the first male and female veteran over 50. A canicross trophy is also awarded, though canicross participants are not eligible for the main place trophies. Facilities include camping, toilets, and paid parking.
