The Beast of the Blacks is a trail running event on Saturday 14 March 2026 offering three distances: 11 miles / 17 km, 20 miles / 32.5 km, and 40 miles / 65 km. Routes are fully marked and GPX files are provided. Entry information lists entries opening 7 May 2025 and closing 8 March 2026. Minimum age is 17. Entry fees are £48 for the 10/11 mile, £60 for the 20 mile, and £80 for the 40 mile. Course, support and rules
The route runs in the Black Mountains and includes upland tracks, forest trails, mountain tops, river crossings and village landmarks. The organiser describes food- and drink-stocked checkpoints with vegan options and a full medical team. Facilities include camping, toilets, refreshments, parking (charge applies), physios and small event stalls such as a sportswear shop and barista. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run and kept on the lead, and owners are responsible for their dogs. Mandatory kit checks are enforced; required items include waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, suitable base layer, spare food, map or downloaded GPX, mobile phone, hat and gloves, appropriate trail footwear, basic first aid items, foil blanket, head torch and whistle.
