Event overview
The Beast of the Blacks is a trail running event on Saturday 14 March 2026 in the Black Mountains. The event uses a marked course with GPX files available and a headquarters listed at Longtown Hall (HR2 0LD). The 40-mile route follows a reverse of the 20-mile loop so runners cover the same scenery in opposite order.

Logistics and services
Facilities at the event include camping, refreshments, toilets, parking (fee applies), physios and a full medical team. There will be refuel zones and checkpoints that are described as well stocked, catering for dietary requirements including vegan options. Checkpoints typically offer snacks, fruit, drinks and hot or homemade items. GPX downloads for the routes are provided.
Entry, rules and kit
Entry fees listed are £48 for the 10/11-mile route, £60 for the 20-mile route and £80 for the 40-mile route. The event minimum age is 17. Cut-off times are published for each distance. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run, kept on the lead and remain the responsibility of their owner. A mandatory kit list is enforced and a full kit check will be carried out at registration; participants without the required kit will not be permitted to start.
