Event overview
The Beast of the Blacks is a trail running event on Saturday 14 March 2026 in the Black Mountains area of Wales. Routes are fully marked and marshals are present. GPX files are provided for the routes, and the 40-mile course is the reverse of the 20-mile loop. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run and kept on the lead at all times. Participants must be 17 or older on the event date.

Cut off times are: 11 miles - 5 hours; 20 miles - 8 hours; 40 miles - 16 hours. Entry fees listed are £48 for the 10/11 mile option, £60 for the 20 mile, and £80 for the 40 mile. Entry opens and closes on the dates published by the organiser.
Checkpoints are described as well stocked and catering for dietary requirements including vegan options; typical supplies include fruit, nuts, biscuits, crisps, drinks and electrolytes. Facilities at the event include camping, refreshments, toilets, a full medical team, and on-site kit retail. Mandatory kit is required and will be checked; items include waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest, capacity to carry fluid, map or GPX file, appropriate footwear, first aid items, foil blanket, head torch and whistle.
