Event details
The Beast of the Blacks is a trail running event held on Saturday 14 March 2026 at Llanbedr Hall, Nr Crickhowell, Powys (NP8 1SR). The event offers three route distances:
- 11 Miles / 17 KM
- 20 Miles / 32.5 KM
- 40 Miles / 65 KM
The start and finish are at Llanbedr Hall. The course is fully marked and GPX files are available. Entry fees listed are £48 for the 10/11 mile, £60 for the 20 mile and £80 for the 40 mile. Minimum age is 17 on the event date.
Course, support and rules
Elevation gain is given as 3,418 ft (11 mile), 4,553 ft (20 mile) and 9,106 ft (40 mile). Cut-off times are 5 hours (11 mile), 8 hours (20 mile) and 16 hours (40 mile). The route includes forest trails, mountain tops, river crossings and local landmarks in the Black Mountains. The 40 mile uses the 20 mile loop in reverse.
Checkpoints and refuel zones provide food and drink with options for dietary requirements, including vegan. Facilities at headquarters include camping, refreshments, toilets, parking (fee), and a full medical team. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run, kept on a lead and remain the owner’s responsibility.
