Beast of Bamford Fell Race
This is a Christmas fundraising event for Bamford Recreation Ground. All funds go towards refurbishing the play park on Bamford with Thornhill Recreation Ground. In its third year, the route is described as bat shaped and follows an anticlockwise tour of the Hope Valley skyline around the village of Bamford in the Peak District. The course runs across Bamford Moor, along Bamford Edge, past the Ladybower plug holes, over Win Hill and finishes at the Recreation Ground.
There are two route options:
- Beast of Bamford (shorter) - 15 km (9 miles)
- Beastier Fell Race (longer) - 25 km (15.5 miles)
The shorter route has an ascent of 650 m (2100 ft); the longer route has an ascent of 1100 m (3600 ft). The races are licensed by the FRA under UKA Rules and carry FRA category designations with NS meaning navigational skills are required. FRA Mandatory Minimum Kit must be carried for the whole race; kit will be checked at the start and may be checked at the finish.
Maps show mandatory checkpoints and a suggested route connecting them. Back markers will follow the suggested route and assist runners in difficulty. Runners may choose other routes where they have right of way. Purple areas on the maps are out of bounds and entrants into those areas may be disqualified. Registration is at Bamford Village Institute and free parking is available at Bamford with Thornhill Recreation Ground S33 0DA. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
