Beara Way LITE
Beara Way LITE is an ultra-distance mountain race on Saturday 16 May 2026 in County Cork, with the start and finish at Castletownbere Town Centre. The route covers 70 km with 2292 m of ascent and follows the marked Beara Way Ultra route as far as Eyeries Village, then returns over Mish Kish mountain to the finish.
The event is part of the Munster Ultra League and is rated at difficulty level 9, reflecting difficult terrain and significant ascent. Only major junctions are marked and GPS use is permitted. Entry is limited to 100 participants; entries sold at the time of listing were 37 and entry closes Friday 8 May 2026 at 18:00.
Mandatory Level C kit is required and includes items such as a waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof full leg covering, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy bag, map and compass or GPS with route downloaded, emergency food, and means to carry water. Final kit requirements will be confirmed at registration and random checks may be carried out.
Aid stations are located at Allihies (14.5 km and 44.5 km) and Eyeries Village Hall (59.5 km) and will be stocked with tea, coffee, cola, sweets and snacks; toilets and first aid will be available at main aid stations. Marshalls will be posted at Firkeel Gap Road Junction and on the Mish Kish descent. Outside crew support is not allowed. Two small personal drop bags (40 x 20 x 25 cm) are permitted and organisers will attempt to return bags to the finish, though delays are possible.
