Beara Way LITE

The Beara Way LITE is a mountain running event located in County Cork. The race covers a distance of 70 km with a total ascent of 2292 meters. The course is part of the Munster Ultra League and is classified with a high difficulty rating due to the combination of distance, significant climbing, and the nature of the terrain.

The route begins and ends in Castletownbere Town Centre. Participants follow the marked Beara Way trail toward Eyeries Village before returning via a mountain crossing over Mish Kish to the finish line. Major junctions along the course are marked, and the use of GPS devices is permitted.

Manned aid stations are strategically placed along the route to provide refreshments such as hot drinks and snacks. These stations are located in Allihies (at 14.5 km and 44.5 km) and Eyeries Village Hall (59.5 km). Toilets and first aid services are available at these main locations, with additional marshals and emergency water positioned at Firkeel Gap and the Mishkish Mountain descent.

Safety requirements for this event are strict, and runners must carry mandatory Level C advanced kit. This includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, waterproof leg covers, a map and compass or GPS, a survival bag, emergency food, and a minimum of 500 mL of water. Support from outside crews is prohibited. Participants may use a drop bag system for personal items, with bags delivered to the aid stations in Allihies and Eyeries.
