Beacons Way Ultra 100 Mile
The Beacons Way Ultra is a 100 mile self-navigation ultramarathon across Bannau Brycheiniog, the Brecon Beacons National Park, held on Saturday 24 July 2027. The route follows the official Beacons Way National Trail from Abergavenny Castle to Llangadog RFC, traversing the Black Mountains, the central Beacons including Pen-y-Fan, and the Carmarthen Fans. The course includes 6143 m of ascent and space for 250 entrants, with a 40 hour overall cut-off.
Support is provided at ten checkpoints staffed with refreshments, hot food at indoor locations, and medical cover. Checkpoints enforce cut-off times and require all participants to sign in; failure to check in will result in disqualification. Live online GPS tracking is provided via GB Race Tracker. The event awards UTMB Performance Index points and ITRA points.
Entry requirements include a minimum age of 20, good health, documented ultramarathon experience, and successful completion of at least one organised 50 mile ultramarathon. Competent map and compass navigation is mandatory.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and is subject to checks; required items include a hardcopy OS or Harvey map, a base plate compass (not phone compass), a headtorch and backup light, GPS tracker provided at registration, waterproofs, a thermal survival bag, warm layers, gloves, a minimum 1 litre water container, emergency rations (min 500 calories), whistle and a fully charged mobile phone. Dropbags are permitted to specific checkpoints with size and weight limits. Pacers are allowed from the halfway checkpoint, subject to rules.
