Event Information

The Beacons Way Ultra 100 Mile is a 100-mile ultramarathon with 6143m of total ascent. It takes place in the Brecon Beacons National Park (Bannau Brycheiniog) on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Route and Course

The race starts at the ruins of Abergavenny Castle and follows the Beacons Way National Trail across the park. The course includes some of the highest mountains in South Wales, such as Pen-y-Fan (886m) and the Carmarthen Fans. The event is a self-navigation race where participants must competently use a map and compass.

Checkpoints and Logistics

There are 10 checkpoints along the route, providing refreshments like water, cola, juice, sandwiches, fruit, and snacks. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Some indoor checkpoints offer hot food and drinks. A strict overall cut-off time of 40 hours is enforced. Participants can utilize an optional dropbag service to send supplies to two designated checkpoints. Optional return coach transport from the finish back to Abergavenny Castle is available for a fee.

Entry Requirements

Entry is limited to 250 places. The entry fee is £209. Participants must be at least 20 years old and must have successfully completed a 50-mile ultramarathon under race conditions prior to event day. Experience running in mountainous terrain is required.

Equipment and Rules

A detailed list of mandatory kit must be carried at all times. This includes specific maps, a baseplate compass, headtorch, waterproof jacket and trousers, a survival bag, and a supplied GPS tracker. The race awards UTMB Performance Index points and ITRA points. Finishers receive a 100-mile belt buckle in gold, silver, or bronze depending on their finishing position.
