Two Tunnels Railway Races
The Two Tunnels Railway Races use the Two Tunnels Trails beneath the city of Bath and offer a programme of family friendly running events on routes that pass through the Devonshire and Combe Down tunnels. Events are scheduled for 7th June 2026, 16th August 2026 and 21st February 2027.
The two tunnels were reopened as a shared use path in 2013 after restoration work over seven years. The Devonshire Tunnel is 408 m long and Combe Down Tunnel is 1672 m long. Both tunnels are well lit and well surfaced for runners, walkers and cyclists.
Distances and event types include:
- Colourburst family runs including obstacle elements
- 5 km and 10 km options
- Half marathon and marathon distances
- 50 km solo and pair events and a 5 x 10 km relay
Route surfaces vary by ticket type. Return Ticket routes are essentially tarmac with minimal grass. Hilly Ticket routes mix tarmac, woodland trail and stone path. City Ticket routes use tarmac, canal towpath and river path. The marathon has a 3 hour cut off to start lap two and the 50 km has an 8.5 hour overall cut off. Other distances have no formal cut offs but the events are not open to pure walkers.
Facilities at Brickfields Park include on site toilets, food and coffee vans and bag drop. There is no on site parking; Odd Down Park and Ride is used for car parking and a shuttle bus operates. Bike racking is provided. The races are affiliated to UK Athletics and several distances are officially measured. A donation of £1 per runner supports Sustrans.
