Basingstoke Half Marathon and associated races
The Destination Basingstoke Phillips Law event comprises a Half Marathon, a 10k, a 5k and a children’s one-mile race. The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday 4 October 2026 and is organised by Destination Basingstoke.
The Half Marathon and 10k start on land next to the Crossborough Hill car park in Basingstoke. Most of the route runs on traffic-free minor roads through undulating countryside and past several villages, including Cliddesden, Ellisfield and Farleigh Wallop. Notable course features include the Jolly Farmer pub, a descent and immediate climb known locally as Bedlam Bottom or the Big Dipper where the road drops about 100 feet between miles 8 and 9, and a tree-lined avenue to mile 9. The final section returns through Cliddesden to War Memorial Park and finishes at Crossborough Hill, with a short grass loop in the park.
A 5k course follows much of the same scenic route, turning on Farleigh Road before looping back, and is open to runners aged 11 and over. A free one-mile children’s race for ages 5 to 10 is supported by the event headline sponsor. In 2025 the event saw over 1,700 runners and separate start times were introduced for the Half Marathon and 10k. Roads on the route are closed on race day subject to the usual approvals; when running the course outside the event the roads remain open and some sections, notably the B4036, can be busy.
