About the race
The Destination Basingstoke Phillips Law Half Marathon is a road race held in and around Basingstoke. The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, 4 October. The event is organised by Destination Basingstoke and the headline sponsor is Phillips Law. Races start on land next to the Crossborough Hill car park and finish at Crossborough Hill in War Memorial Park.
Most of the half marathon and 10k route runs on traffic-free minor roads through undulating countryside and passes through the villages of Cliddesden, Ellisfield and Farleigh Wallop. Notable course features include the Jolly Farmer pub, a left by the village pond, Cliddesden School, College Lane, The Fox Inn, and a section locally known as the Big Dipper or Bedlam Bottom where the road drops by about 100 feet then rises again. A tree-lined avenue leads toward mile 9 and the final section includes a short loop on grass in War Memorial Park before the finish. The event has added a 5k course and children's races in recent years.
In 2025 the event had over 1,700 runners and introduced separate start times for the half marathon and 10k. In 2026 Phillips Law sponsorship enabled a free one-mile race for 5 to 10 year olds. Roads on the race route are closed on race day subject to approvals; the route remains open to traffic outside the event and some roads such as the B4036 can be busy.
