Basingstoke Half Marathon
The Destination Basingstoke Phillips Law event is a town-centre road race that uses mostly traffic free minor roads through undulating Hampshire countryside. The 2026 event is scheduled for Sunday 4 October and is organised by Destination Basingstoke.
The road race starts next to the Crossborough Hill car park in Basingstoke and finishes back at Crossborough Hill via War Memorial Park. Subject to road closure approvals, roads on the route are closed for the duration of the event on race day. The course passes through villages including Cliddesden and Ellisfield, and features named landmarks such as the Jolly Farmer pub, College Lane, The Fox Inn and the tree-lined Avenue. Between miles 8 and 9 the route includes the locally known Big Dipper or Bedlam Bottom where the road drops by about 100 feet then regains the height.
The event comprises multiple race distances:
- Half Marathon
- 10k
- 5k, following the same scenic route to a turning point on Farleigh Road and returning
- Children’s one-mile, free for 5 to 10 year olds in 2026
Previous editions have seen route adjustments, separate start times for some races and over 1,700 entrants in 2025. Runners are reminded that the route is open to traffic outside the event and that training on the course is at their own risk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
