Basingstoke Half Marathon
The Destination Basingstoke Phillips Law event is a community road race weekend in Basingstoke organised by Destination Basingstoke. The 2026 event is scheduled for Sunday 4 October 2026. The programme includes multiple distances on mostly traffic free minor roads through undulating countryside and villages, with road closures in place on race day subject to the usual approvals.
- Half Marathon on a town to countryside route
- 10k on a revised route introduced in 2023
- 5k following a shortened version of the main route, open to ages 11 and over
- Children's one mile free race for 5 to 10 year olds in 2026
The half marathon route leaves town and passes through Cliddesden, Ellisfield and Farleigh Wallop. Landmarks and features on the course include the Jolly Farmer pub, a turn by a village pond, College Lane with a gentle downhill to mile 6, and the climb past The Fox Inn. Between miles 8 and 9 runners descend and regain about 100 feet at a section known locally as Bedlam Bottom or the Big Dipper. A tree lined avenue leads to mile 9 and then the route is largely downhill toward the finish. The final approach returns through Cliddesden into town, includes a short grass loop in War Memorial Park, and finishes at Crossborough Hill.
The event has grown in recent years, with over 1,700 runners in 2025 and separate start times introduced that year for the half marathon and 10k. Organisers note that anyone practising the course should take care because the roads are open and the B4036 can be busy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
