Barrier Island Earth Day 5K

The Barrier Island Earth Day 5K is a community event held at the St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center on Seabrook Island, SC (2810 Seabrook Island Road). The program includes a 5K Fun Run for runners and walkers and a separate set of Earth Day festivities open to non-5K participants.

The 5K course runs primarily on trails that pass through maritime forest, salt marsh grass, dunes and beach areas typical of a Lowcountry barrier island. The route includes varied terrain such as exposed roots, sand, mud and gravel, and some sections are narrow and single-file. The event is held rain or shine. Registration is required in advance to participate in the 5K. Children age five and under do not need to register or pay to take part in the 5K. To guarantee a race T-shirt, registration must be completed by March 18, 2026.

Earth Day festivities run during and after the 5K and are free and open to the public. Offerings listed for the festival include food trucks, local vendors, environmental education booths, games and crafts, live-animal exhibits and tours of the Herpetarium and Aquarium. Tours require prior registration at the Barrier Island table to ensure availability. Proceeds from the event support the Barrier Island Scholarship and Outreach Fund, which funds environmental education and outreach for K-12 students. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
