About the race
Barrie Triathlon, Duathlon and Kids of Steel is part of the MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series and takes place over two days at Centennial Beach Park in downtown Barrie, along the revitalized waterfront of Kempenfelt Bay.
The event offers several multisport formats. The Give it a Tri features a 400 m swim, 10 km bike and 3 km run. Kids of Steel races provide age based distances, ranging from 50 m swim - 1.25 km bike - 400 m run for ages 6-7 up to 500 m swim - 10 km bike - 3 km run for ages 14-15. For adults, the Sprint triathlon includes 750 m swim - 20 km bike - 5 km run, and the Sprint duathlon includes 5 km run - 20 km bike - 2.5 km run.
All events use a fully closed, multi loop bike course on roads along the Barrie waterfront, on a flat route with wide turnarounds. The swim is held in the clear waters of Kempenfelt Bay, with typical temperatures of 18-22 °C where wetsuits are likely optional but recommended. The run course follows waterfront paths towards the Southshore Centre and Military Heritage Park.
The transition area is grassy with plenty of space, and there are various parking options nearby on the waterfront. Event entry includes a locally sourced custom finisher medal, a race specific casual sport cut T shirt, professional timing, post race food, draw prizes and age group awards. There are multi race discounts and reduced fees for participants under 23 and under 18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
