Barrel to Keg Relay
The Barrel to Keg Relay is a team relay that runs from Harris Bridge Vineyard in Philomath to Yaquina Bay Yacht Club on the Historic Newport Bayfront. The course follows backcountry roads and sections alongside the Yaquina River, finishing on the Newport bayfront with views of the bridge and harbor.
Teams are typically organized as groups of runners or walkers. Most participants form teams of seven runners or four walkers. Each team is expected to provide a volunteer to assist on the course. The event usually includes about one hundred teams.
Event offerings include:
- 67 miles run relay course
- 33 miles walk relay course
A pre-race campout is held at Harris Bridge Vineyard the night before the relay. Activities described for the campout include swimming in the river, a shared potluck meal, live music, and a campfire. Packet pick up is handled at Harris Bridge Vineyard. Teams finish at Yaquina Bay Yacht Club, where a finish line party and on-site refreshments are provided.
A portion of event proceeds supports Community Services Consortium. The consortium’s work, described by the event, focuses on food, housing, health care access, education, training, and work readiness to help reduce poverty in the region.
