Event Overview
The Bagel & a Schmear 5K is a running and walking event taking place on Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It coincides with Mother’s Day and starts and finishes at Kaufman's Coffee & Bagels, located at the historic El Vado Motel at 2500 Central Avenue SW. The event is presented by Heart & Sole Sports.
Distances and Entry Fees
The event includes two distances:
- 5K Run/Walk: Entry fee starts at $35, increasing to $40 and then $45 closer to the race date. Registration closes May 7, 2026.
- Kids K: A separate event for children.
Participation is capped at 500 runners for the 5K.
What's Included and Beneficiary
Registration for the 5K includes a custom race shirt, a finisher's flower for participants' mothers, and post-race bagels and schmear (with discounts). The event directly supports Locker #505, a nonprofit providing school clothing to students in need in the Albuquerque metro area.
Awards
Awards are given for overall and age-group categories.
- The top three overall male and female finishers receive cash prizes or gift cards to Heart & Sole Sports.
- Top male and female finishers in eight age groups, from 12 & under to 70+, also receive prizes.
- Overall awards are based on gun time, while age-group awards use chip time. The awards ceremony starts at 9:00 AM.
Logistics and Policies
Packet pickup is available on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, at Heart & Sole Sports (2817 San Mateo Blvd NE), and on race day at the start location from 6:45 AM. For safety and timing, bib numbers must be worn on the front of the outermost layer. The following are not allowed on the course: roller blades, skates, bikes, dogs, pets, or headphones (headphone use disqualifies participants from overall awards).
