Stillhouse 100K
The Stillhouse 100K is the sixth annual running of a trail 100 kilometer event near Soddy Daisy, TN. The course is an out and back that follows the Upchuck 50k route on the Cumberland Trail, featuring technical single track and sustained climbs and descents into Soddy Creek, Possum Creek, and Rock Creek. The route includes close to 12,000 feet of elevation gain and is described by the organizer as not intended for beginner ultra runners.
Outbound aid is provided at three full aid stations roughly every 10 miles. Aid station locations and mile markers are Heiss Mountain Road at miles 13 and 49, Retro Hughes Road at miles 23 and 39, and Legget Road at mile 31 which serves as the turnaround and a full aid station. Drop bags are accepted at Heiss Mountain Road, Retro Hughes Road, and Legget Road. Aid stations will offer water, Powerade, prepacked chips, gummy bears, and at mile 31 there will be ramen and either quesadillas or grilled cheese sandwiches.
A required gear list includes a hydration pack or belt with at least 1 liter of water, a shell jacket, an insulating layer, headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries, a beanie and gloves as weather dependent items, an emergency blanket if required by conditions, and nutrition. A drop bag at the mile 31 turnaround is recommended for changes of clothes and footwear. Pacers may join runners at the turnaround and at specified outbound and inbound aid stations; only one pacer per runner is allowed.
