River Gorge Trail Race
River Gorge runs the Mullens Cove and Pot Point loops in the Prentice-Cooper Wildlife Management Area near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The route uses highly technical single-track loop trails and follows sections with bluff views of the Tennessee River and cascading streams lined with rhododendron and towering hemlock.
Distances offered include:
- 6.5 miles - elevation gain around 1500 ft
- 10 miles - elevation gain around 2000 ft
- 20 miles - elevation gain around 3000 ft
Logistics note that early packet pickup is scheduled for the Friday before race day with the location to be determined, and race day packet pickup takes place at the Mullens Cove parking lot. Registration is online only; there is no walk-up registration on race day. There are cutoff times for shorter distances: a 2 hour 30 minute cutoff for the 6.5 mile race and a 3 hour 30 minute cutoff for the 10 mile race. The start and finish are at the Mullens Cove parking lot within Prentice Cooper State Forest; the drive from downtown Chattanooga is described as about 30 minutes.
