Backyard Laramie, Laramie WY
Backyard Laramie is a backyard ultra held at the Pilot Hill Recreational Trailhead in Laramie, Wyoming. The format requires runners to repeatedly complete a roughly 4.17 mile loop every hour; one completed loop counts as one yard and the event continues until only one runner remains in each category. The last male and last female runner are crowned Pronghorn King and Pronghorn Queen.
The route is entirely on gravel and includes about 220 feet of elevation gain. The course is slightly longer than the typical backyard loop used elsewhere. Parking is free and normally available along Willett Drive.
The event is free to enter; organizers collect donations to cover event costs and to support the Trail Fairies, a local trail maintenance organization. The High Plains Harriers host the event. Some food and water are provided at the aid station, and a tent and seating are available there.
Runners should bring their own supplies for the number of laps they expect to complete, including extra socks and shoes because conditions can vary. A chair is recommended for resting between loops. A headlamp with spare batteries is required for running after dark. Participants must have a phone or other way to contact event staff in case of injury. Weather in the area can include rain, wind, sun, or snow, so participants should prepare accordingly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
