Twin Mountain Trudge - January 9, 2027, Laramie WY
The Twin Mountain Trudge is a winter trail race held in Laramie, WY on January 9, 2027. The event offers two course options:
- 10.2 miles Single Loop Classic
- 20.5 miles Double Loop Marathon
The single loop circles the Twin Mountain massif and passes rock outcroppings and valleys. The course is described as hilly with long stretches of thigh-deep snow, some ice, and about 2000 feet of climbing. A mid-loop unmanned aid location does not provide resupply; the double loop returns to a fully stocked table at the start and finish for actual aid.
Rules restrict snowshoes, skis, and other flotation devices. Ski or trekking poles, traction devices such as MicroSpikes or YakTrax, and grit are allowed. Participants must meet mandatory gear requirements, which are checked at registration and at the finish: 40 ounces of fluids, 400 calories of food, a firestarter, a wind coat, long pants, a warm hat, gloves or mitts, an emergency whistle, a Mylar emergency space blanket, and a headlamp or flashlight if attempting the double loop. These are minimums and there is nothing on the loop that will top riders up.
To start the second loop, runners must complete the first loop in under 3 hours and 30 minutes. There is no way off the loop until the finish and rescue could take hours. The 2027 race marks the 23rd running of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
