Twin Mountain Trudge (January 9, 2027)
The Twin Mountain Trudge takes place in Laramie, WY and offers a winter trail race held as either a single loop or a double loop around the Twin Mountain massif. The 2027 event is the 23rd running and features rocky outcroppings, valleys, long stretches of thigh-deep snow, some ice, and about 2000 feet of climbing.
Distances
- 10.2 miles Single Loop Classic
- 20.5 miles Double Loop Marathon
The course includes an unmanned mid-loop aid station that does not resupply participants. A staffed aid table with warm food is located at the halfway point at the start/finish area. The double loop repeats the same circuit, passing the mid-loop location twice; participants must finish the first loop in under 3 hours and 30 minutes to continue to the second loop.
Equipment and rules specify that snowshoes, skis, or flotation devices are not allowed. Ski or trekking poles and traction devices are permitted. Mandatory items, checked at registration and the finish line, include 40 ounces of fluids, 400 calories of food, a firestarter, wind coat, long pants, warm hat, gloves or mitts, an emergency whistle, a Mylar emergency blanket, and a headlamp or flashlight for those who may run the second loop. There is no resupply on the loop beyond the listed aid points, and there is no exit from the loop until the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
