Back on the Ranch Trail Run
The Back on the Ranch Trail Run takes place from October 2–4, 2026 at Sand Creek Ranch in Los Olivos, California. This is the 9th edition of the event, presented by the organization AllWeDoIsRun.
Participants can choose from multiple timed divisions. The event features the following timed runs:
- 48-hour (starting Friday, October 2)
- 24-hour (starting Saturday, October 3)
- 12-hour daytime (Saturday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm) or 12-hour nighttime (Saturday 8:00 pm to Sunday 8:00 am)
- 6-hour
- 3-hour There is also a non-runner option.
All runners compete on a 3.4-mile loop course, aiming to complete as many laps as possible within their chosen time limit. The loop has approximately 400–433 feet of elevation gain per lap. The surface is about 95% dirt, comprising a mix of hard-packed dirt roads and soft single-track trails.
Free primitive camping and parking are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with participants able to set up near the course. There are no hookups or running water on-site. The ranch gate opens at 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 1 and closes at 12:00 pm on Sunday, October 4.
All participants receive a custom souvenir t-shirt and a custom finisher's amulet. Awards are given to the top male and female in each division. Finishers of the 24-hour or 48-hour divisions who complete 100 miles receive a Western-style trophy buckle.
