Back of the Yards 5K Turkey Run
The Back of the Yards 5K Turkey Run is an annual community 5K run and walk organized by the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council in Back of the Yards, Chicago. The route starts at the historic Union Stockyards Gate at 41st Street & Halsted Ave and passes through the Stockyard Industrial Park and nearby neighborhood streets. The event is presented as family friendly.
Race packets include a commemorative race t-shirt (registrations after October 30, 2026 do not include a shirt), a timed bib, and a medal. Published registration information shows a listed amount of $40.49 for the 5K and, for the Aug 1 to Oct 30 period, entries listed as $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 years and under. The pricing notes indicate shown amounts include mandatory charges when pricing applies.
Packet pickup is at the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council, 4555 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago, IL 60609, on November 6 (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and November 7 (9:00 AM to 1:00 PM). Group packet pickup requires advance arrangement with the organizer. Transportation options listed include ride sharing, carpooling, and public transit; the #8 Halsted bus stops at Exchange Ave & Halsted St, one block east of the start/finish. Street parking is available near the start/finish.
A shakeout run is scheduled for November 14 with Daily Routine Run Club and Trinity Squad Fitness. Post race refreshments include coffee, champurrado, tamales, and pan dulce.
