AZT Vail Scramble, Vail, AZ
The AZT Vail Scramble is a trail event offering three distances in the valley between the Santa Rita and Rincon Mountains. The races travel on sections of the Arizona Trail and include point-to-point routing for the longer distances.
Distances:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
- 10K
The marathon and half marathon begin south of Vail and follow the Arizona Trail north after a short dirt road segment. The 10K starts near Sahuarita Road and Highway 83 and runs along the final 6.2 miles of the marathon course. All races finish at a trailhead on the Arizona Trail.
Terrain includes ups and downs along the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains. The half marathon and 10K feature a mostly gentle, winding descent through ocotillo, prickly pear cactus, creosote, and mesquite. The course is point to point and event transportation is provided to each start line on school buses, with return transport available to the parking area. All participants must park at the Vail School District parking area.
On-course aid stations are stocked with water, electrolyte drink, fresh fruit, salty chips and other snacks. Registration includes finish-line food from Parkie Sandwiches, post-race beverages, event apparel in the form of custom running socks, a unique finisher award, live music from Mariachi Luz de Luna, and custom ceramic mugs for top finishers. Proceeds support the Arizona Trail Association and the maintenance and protection of the Arizona National Scenic Trail.
Refunds are not offered. Cancellations made through the registration platform at least two weeks before the event may apply 75% of registration credit toward an Arizona Trail Endurance Series event within the next year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
