The Azalea Sprint is the opening race of the 2026 North Carolina Triathlon Series. This sprint-distance triathlon features a pool swim, a multi-lap bike course, and a 5K run in Wilmington. Participants can compete individually, as part of a relay team, or in an aquabike event.

Event Overview

The Azalea Sprint is a triathlon event taking place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 720 Hamilton Drive, Wilmington, North Carolina. It serves as the opening race for the 2026 North Carolina Triathlon Series.

Event Format

The event offers three race formats:

The sprint-distance course consists of a 300-yard pool swim, a 12-mile bike ride consisting of two laps, and a 5K run.

Registration & Logistics

Registration opens on November 1, 2025. Packet pick-up and late registration occur at the race site (UNCW) at the blue Set Up Events trailer near the finish line. Pick-up times are Saturday, March 7, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and Sunday, March 8, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM. A photo ID is required for packet pick-up.
