Azalea Festival 5k
The Azalea Festival 5k is a chip-timed, certified 5K that starts and finishes at Doodle Park in Pickens, South Carolina. The event is listed as the third race in the Pickens County 5k Race Series; runners who complete three of the four races in the series are eligible for series swag and series awards.
All proceeds from the race support the Beverly M. Smith Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded annually to a female graduating from Pickens High School who demonstrates leadership and civic skills. Any proceeds above the scholarship amount are donated to local charities. The event is organized by the Pickens Women’s Association, a nonprofit civic organization that supports community awareness and involvement in Pickens.
Awards are presented three deep for overall male and female finishers and three deep for Masters male and female. Age group awards are given at 10-year intervals. Youth awards for this year include three deep for under 10, three deep for ages 10 to 14, and one deep for ages 15 to 19. Overall male and female winners receive cash prizes of $100 for first, $75 for second, and $25 for third.
Packet pick-up is handled under the shelter at Doodle Park and is also available on race morning. T-shirts are provided to runners who register by April 15; shirts may not be available after that date. Parking is available on E. Cedar Rock St and at City Works on Railroad St. A course map is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
