AVL Runway 5K
The AVL Runway 5K is a road race held on the airfield at Asheville Regional Airport. The course runs end-to-end on Taxiway Bravo, beside active Runway 17-35, and is described as flat. The event includes a festival area on the north side of the airfield with live music, local food trucks offering coffee and pastries, and opportunities for plane spotting.
Parking is located at 9 Pinner Road in Arden, NC, with shuttle service to the race venue. Packet pick-up is offered before the event at Sierra Nevada and there is also day of race packet pick-up at the venue.
Safety measures include a stadium style security screening required for entry, limited water stations on course, and a strict no pets policy. Runners may carry reusable water containers but may not discard any items on the airfield. Wheeled devices are not allowed on the course except for wheelchairs and jogging strollers; those users will be asked to start at the back. Public safety officers will be on site and ear plugs will be available for those who need them.
Race shirts are guaranteed for registrations completed by September 7, 2026, with shirts available afterward while supplies last. There are 1,000 participant spots available. Overall and age category winners receive finisher medals and additional prizes for overall winners. Net proceeds support local aviation education and nonprofit organizations.
