Austin's Backyard Marathon
Austin's Backyard Marathon is a last-person-standing backyard ultra held at Turkey Bend Recreation Area in the Texas Hill Country, about 45 miles northwest of Austin along the Colorado River. The format uses a 4.167 mile (6.706 km) loop that begins at the top of each hour; participants must complete each loop within the hour to continue. Runners are eliminated if they fail to finish a loop in time or choose not to start the next loop. The event is an official Bronze Ticket qualifying race.
The course surface is roughly 50% trail and 50% paved, with some technical sections. Stocked aid stations provide hydration, nutrition, and basic medical support, with snacks such as fruit, cookies, breakfast bars, chips, and soft drinks. All participants who complete at least one loop receive a finisher medal; additional recognition and medals are given for half-marathon, marathon, and ultra mile achievements. The Gladiator Award is presented to any athlete who completes 100 miles within 24 hours on the official course while following race rules.
Camping is available at the park on a limited, first-come, first-served basis. Animals are not allowed at the event. The event follows Leave No Trace principles; runners who litter may be disqualified. Due to event preparations there are no refunds, and the race may be canceled or rescheduled for severe weather or other circumstances beyond organizer control.
