About the race
Austin's Backyard Marathon is a Backyard Ultra held at Turkey Bend Recreation Area near Austin, Texas. The format uses a repeating loop of 4.167 miles (6.706 km) that starts at the top of each hour; participants must complete each loop within the hour and may continue until only one runner remains. The event serves as a 2026 Team Championship Bronze Ticket qualifying race.
The course mixes trail and paved surfaces roughly equally, with some technical sections. Stocked aid stations provide hydration, nutrition, and basic medical assistance, and snacks listed include fruit, cookies, breakfast bars, chips, and soft drinks. All finishers receive a custom medal and event t-shirt; additional recognition and medals are awarded for reaching half-marathon, marathon, and ultra mile distances. The overall last person standing and the male and female athletes who complete the most loops receive special recognition. A Gladiator Award is available for any runner who completes 100 miles within 24 hours on the official Backyard Ultra course while following race rules.
Practical details: registration includes park entry; additional spectator fees apply. Limited campsites are available on a first come first served basis and organizers request advance notice to secure a spot. Animals are not permitted. The event follows Leave No Trace principles and enforces waste and trail-use rules; runners caught littering will be disqualified. Packet pickup is offered the day before and the day of the event. Cancellation and refund policy: no refunds; the event may be canceled or rescheduled for severe weather or other uncontrollable circumstances.
