ATW Hatfield 5
The ATW Hatfield 5 returns for its 12th year, hosting a 5-mile race that includes the Herts County Senior Championships. The event is known for its speed, having recorded the third-fastest time for this distance in the UK in 2022.
The course begins at The Forum on the University of Hertfordshire's College Lane Campus. The route follows the pavements of College Lane before joining The Alban Way, a popular path connecting Hatfield and St Albans. A significant portion of the course is flat; for instance, the section along Wilkins Green Lane involves only three metres of elevation gain. The race continues through Smallford Lane and Sleapcross Gardens before reaching a straight, flat section on the A414 footpath. The final mile takes participants along Comet Way and back onto the Alban Way to return to the race headquarters.
Participants receive several amenities as part of their entry:
- 5 miles (8.05 km)
- Custom-designed finishers medals
- Free event photography
- Finish line snacks and refreshments
The event is organized by Active Training World and partners with Alzheimer's Research UK for charitable fundraising. Facilities at the site include free on-site parking at the University campus. The organizer operates a transfer policy that allows participants to move their entry to a future event up to 48 hours before the start if they are unable to attend.
