ATW Big East & Maldon Triathlon
The ATW Big East & Maldon Triathlon takes place in Maldon, Essex, featuring a variety of multi-sport distances. The event is centered at Promenade Park and the courses utilize the local river and scenic roads of the Dengie Peninsula. The sprint and standard distance triathlon and aquabike events will host the 2026 East Region Adult Race Series.
Participants can choose from several event formats:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 25km bike, and 5km run.
- Standard Distance: 1500m swim, 40km bike, and 10km run.
- Middle Distance (Odyssey @ Big East): 1.5km swim, 86km bike, and 20km run.
- Aquabike: Swim and bike sections only, available for all three distances.
- Relay: Teams of two or three athletes can share the disciplines for any distance.
The swim leg is a 750m looped course in a tidal river, starting near the statue of Byrhtnoth and heading toward Northey Island. Due to the tide, the swim has a cut-off time of 1 hour 10 minutes. The non-draft legal bike course follows quiet roads through Latchingdon, Tillingham, Steeple, and Mayland. The run is held on a flat 5km loop along the promenade and sea wall footpath, consisting of paved paths, grass, and gravel tracks.
The event follows British Triathlon categories, offering a Female category and an Open category. All finishers receive a medal and additional items at the finish line. Parking is available at Promenade Park, where fees apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
