ATW Big East & Maldon Triathlon
The event takes place at Promenade Park, Park Drive, Maldon, Essex. It offers multiple triathlon distances and will host the 2026 East Region Adult Race Series for the Sprint and Standard distances.
Distances offered include:
- Middle Distance: 1.5 km swim, 86 km bike, 20 km run
- Standard Distance: 1500 m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run
- Sprint Distance: 750 m swim, 25 km bike, 5 km run
Aquabike (swim and bike only) and Relay options are available across all distances, allowing teams of two or three athletes to share disciplines.
The swim uses a 750 m looped course starting beside the statue of Byrhtnoth and heads out toward Northey Island. Because of tidal conditions the swim leg has a strict cut-off of 1 hour 10 minutes and the overall event has a 9-hour cut-off.
The bike course is non draft legal and follows quiet roads of the Dengie Peninsula, passing through Latchingdon, Tillingham, Steeple and Mayland. The run is a flat 5 km loop along the promenade and sea wall with the final kilometre running through Promenade Park; surfaces include paved paths, grass and gravel track.
Transgender athletes are explicitly welcome. British Triathlon categories include a Female category for athletes who are female at birth and an Open category for all other athletes. All finishers receive a medal and additional items at the finish line. Parking is available in Promenade Park; fees apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
