ATW Big East & Maldon Triathlon
The ATW Big East & Maldon Triathlon takes place at Promenade Park in Maldon, Essex on 16 May 2026 and will host part of the 2026 East Region Adult Race Series. The event is organised by Active Training World and offers multiple individual, team and aquabike options.
Race options and distances include:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 25km bike, 5km run
- Sprint Triathlon Relay: 750m swim, 25km bike, 5km run
- Standard Triathlon: 1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run
- Standard Triathlon Relay: 1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run
- Standard Aquabike: 1500m swim, 40km bike
- Big East Middle Distance Triathlon: 1500m swim, 86km bike, 20km run
- Big East Middle Distance Triathlon Relay: 1500m swim, 86km bike, 20km run
- Big East Middle Distance Aquabike: 1500m swim, 86km bike
The swim takes place in the tidal river and a 750m swim course starts next to the statue of Byrhtnoth and heads toward Northey Island. The bike leg is non draft legal and uses roads of the Dengie Peninsula through villages such as Latchingdon, Tillingham, Steeple and Mayland. The run is a largely flat 5km loop along the promenade and sea wall with paved, grass and gravel surfaces; the final kilometre loops around Promenade Park. There is a swim cutoff of 1 hour 10 minutes and an overall event cutoff of 8 hours. Aquabike and relay formats are available. Wetsuit hire is offered and event fundraising supports Alzheimer’s Research UK. Parking is available in Promenade Park with fees applying.
