Ashland Railroad Run
The Ashland Railroad Run is an established running event held in Ashland, Virginia. This event marks its 47th year and takes place in a town known as the "Center of the Universe." The races start and finish near the local railroad tracks, with proceeds benefiting the Hanover Arts & Activities Center.
Participants can choose from several in-person and virtual race distances:
- 10K: A trail course involving roots, wooden bridges, and gravel sections.
- 5K: A road course that is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
- COTU Challenge: A 15 km combined event where participants complete both the 5K and the 10K.
- Kids Fun Run: A short distance event for children.
- 1 Mile Fun Run: A run or walk specifically for adults affiliated with Hanover ARC.
The 10K course is a rails-to-trails route and is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs due to the terrain. There are two water stations located along the course for participant use. Registration includes a tech shirt, though sizes are not guaranteed for those who register after the early March deadline. In-person packet pickup is held at the Hanover Arts & Activities Center.
Awards include gift certificates for top overall finishers in the 10K, as well as the top male and female finishers in the 5K and the COTU Challenge. All participants in the Fun Run events receive prizes upon finishing. The event is organized in partnership with Arsenal Events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
