Richmond SPCA's 24th Annual Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party
The Richmond SPCA's Annual Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party is a multi-event gathering held at the Richmond SPCA on Hermitage Road. The event serves as a fundraiser to support the rescue and rehabilitation of homeless animals and various community pet programs. Various distances and participation formats are available:
- 5K In-person: A chip-timed 3.1-mile race for humans only. No dogs are permitted on the course for this distance. Timing is conducted by the Richmond Road Runners Club.
- Dog Jog In-person: A 1-mile walk or jog for participants and their dogs. Participating dogs must be at least six months old, current on rabies vaccinations, and kept on a non-retractable leash.
- Fun Run for Kids: A half-mile course designed for children in age groups 4-6 and 7-10.
- Virtual Options: For those choosing to participate remotely, "run anywhere" options are available for both the 5K and the 1-mile distances.
- Cat Nap: A fundraising-only category for those who wish to support the cause without participating in a physical race.
Beyond the races, the event includes a variety of educational and recreational activities. These include Pilates mat classes, a "Paint Your Pet" canvas tote bag workshop, and dog training sessions focused on recall and trick training. There is also an educational course regarding cat and kitten fostering. While the athletic events are held rain or shine, the associated Block Party has a designated rain date for the following day.
