Arrowhead Ultra 135
Arrowhead Ultra 135 is a winter endurance event held across northern Minnesota. The course covers 135 miles and attracts runners, bikers, and skiers. Race editions are staged in late January; the 23rd annual edition is scheduled for Jan 25 to 27, 2027 and registration opens Sept 1, 2026 at 8 am Central time.
The event requires prior qualification or equivalent training. Organizers request a qualifying race of at least 100 miles on foot, 100 miles off road or 200 miles on road for bikers, or 100 miles for skiers; other training may be considered in lieu of a qualifying race. Racers must carry a satellite tracker; rental trackers are available and must be arranged well before gear check. GPS tracker rules note that some devices may not maintain battery life in cold conditions and auxiliary batteries are recommended; finishing with a lost or dead tracker may incur a time penalty.
Gear procedures include inspection of a clear Melgeorge’s drop bag containing only food and drink; drop bags will be stored in an unheated porch and may be inspected during gear check. Organizers publish a route GPX file and maintain photo galleries, race results, and race reports from each year. The event lists several community charities it supports, including the Special Ops Warrior Foundation, Koochiching County Food Access, Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids, and ISD 361 Community Education.
