Event Overview
The ARF 5K Run & Walk is a community sports event held at Memorial Park in Beacon, New York. This event marks the 40th anniversary of the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and serves as a fundraiser to support the rescue and care of animals. All proceeds from the race are dedicated to this nonprofit cause. The event features professionally timed courses using chipped running bibs for participants.
The available distances include:
- 5K Run & Walk with the Dogs
- 1K Kids Fun Run & Walk (Ages 3-10)
- 5K Virtual Run & Walk with the Dogs
Participation Details
The 5K event invites participants to run or walk alongside their canine companions. To ensure safety, all dogs must be non-aggressive toward humans and other animals, current on vaccinations, and kept on a leash at all times. Retractable and bungee-style leashes are prohibited. Each adult participant is limited to one dog, and participating dogs receive an official race dog tag. Strollers are permitted specifically on the 5K course.
The 1K Kids Fun Run is designed for children aged 3 to 10. While dogs are not permitted to join this specific distance, every child receives a finisher prize. Children under the age of 3 may participate in the event for free.
Venue and Activities
Located on Robert Cahill Drive, the event takes place regardless of weather conditions. Outside of the races, the schedule includes a dog costume contest with categories for most original and most hilarious costumes. A post-race celebration at the park features awards, music, games, face painting, vendor exhibits, and raffles. Participants who reach specific fundraising milestones may also earn exclusive prizes or an event t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
