Event Overview
The ARF 5K Run and Walk is a community sports event held at Memorial Park in Beacon, New York. This event marks the 40th anniversary of the Animal Rescue Foundation and directs 100% of its proceeds toward the rescue and care of animals. The competition features professionally timed distances using chipped running bibs.
The following distances are available:
- 5K Run and Walk with the Dogs: A course for runners and walkers accompanied by their canine companions.
- 1K Kids Fun Run: A race designed for children aged 3 to 10.
- 5K Virtual Run and Walk: A remote participation option for those unable to attend in person.
Participant Guidelines
Specific rules apply to participants bringing animals or children. In the 5K event, each adult participant may be accompanied by exactly one dog. Dogs must be leashed at all times, non-aggressive toward people or other animals, and current on all vaccinations. The use of retractable or bungee-style leashes is strictly prohibited. Participating dogs receive an official event dog tag. Strollers are permitted exclusively on the 5K course. Dogs are not allowed to participate in the 1K Kids Fun Run.
Additional Features
The event includes a dog costume contest with categories for original and hilarious costumes. A post-race celebration takes place at Memorial Park featuring music, games, face painting, vendor exhibits, and raffles. Participants who register by late April receive a commemorative event item. The race is held regardless of weather conditions and registration fees are non-refundable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
