About the race
The Arataki Trail Run is held on tracks that start from the Arataki Visitor Centre in the Waitakere Ranges. The loop follows the Beveridge Trail, Exhibition Drive, Pipeline Road and Slip Track through forest, 4WD terrain and dappled glades. Two new out-and-back sections off Pipeline Road make the lap 8.5 km long; runners may complete one lap or two laps totaling 17 km.
Course features include a first water station at Mackies Rest, glimpses of the Nihotopu Dam, well formed tracks, and a noticeable steady climb. Total ascent is reported as 307 m, with a sustained climb of about 175 m over 1.5 km from Pipeline Road up to the top of Slip Track. Marshals are positioned at regular intervals and the event is marshaled by volunteers from the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team.
Parking at the Arataki Car Park is limited to the first 40 cars and overflow is directed to the ranger depot on the opposite side of Scenic Drive. On the day entries are subject to a field limit and an additional fee for late payment may apply. Special cleaning mats and brushes are provided on site for Kauri protection.
After finishing, participants are offered a free pancake breakfast at the Arataki Centre. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
