Aotearoa Afghanistan Marathon : Riverhead Forest, 15 November 2026
The Aotearoa Afghanistan Marathon is a charity running event organised by Timatanga Hou / New Beginnings Foundation in collaboration with Lactic Turkey. The event is set in Riverhead Forest and uses the unsealed road network there to evoke the original Kohi Baba mountain context of the Marathon of Afghanistan. All proceeds support similar future projects; Timatanga Hou is a registered charity (CC61931).
On-site activities include Afghan food stalls offering dishes such as Kabuli pulao, bolani, mantu and various chai. Musicians will perform Hazaragi music on instruments including the dambura and dutar, and Afghan handicrafts including carpets will be on display. Event shirts in white or jade AS Colour t-shirts are available for purchase; adult and kids sizes are offered.
Entries are managed by EventPlus and include an optional XCover entry protection insurance. Entries close on Saturday 14 November 2026. On-the-day entries are available at the venue and incur a late entry fee. Parking at the event base is limited.
Aid stations and marshal support are provided on course. Prizegiving includes randomly drawn spot prizes and token merit prizes for placegetters. The event requires participants to accept the participant declaration and follow marshal instructions for safety.
