Andy's Race
Andy's Race is a multi-discipline event held at the Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville, SC. The program includes a sprint triathlon, a sprint relay, aquabike, aquathlon, and a duathlon. The race is part of the South Carolina Triathlon Series and since 2019 has been dedicated to the memory of a local triathlete.
The swim takes place in the 50 meter Westside Aquatic Center pool and is 400 meters. Athletes start individually at five second intervals, swim one way in each lane, change lanes at each wall, and complete eight lengths.
The bike course is a one-loop 15 mile route. The first and last sections run along four lane highways with the curbside lane closed to traffic; the middle section uses quieter country roads. Terrain is moderate to hilly with long rolling climbs and descents. Turns are marked and intersections are controlled by police and volunteers.
The run is a two-loop 3 mile course that begins in front of the aquatic center. Each loop includes about a quarter mile on hard packed dirt and the remainder on pavement. Turns are marked with pavement arrows and directional signs.
