Andy's Race, Greenville SC
Andy's Race is a multi-format endurance event held at the Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville, South Carolina. The main sprint triathlon format consists of a 400 meter pool swim, a one-loop 15 mile bike course and a two-loop 3 mile run. The field often includes many first-time participants alongside experienced state-level competitors. The event is dedicated in memory of a local triathlete who loved this race and the post-race community.
The pool swim takes place in the 50 meter facility with athletes sent one at a time every five seconds. Swimmers complete eight lengths by swimming one way in each lane and moving under the lane rope at each wall.
The bike course is a single 15 mile loop. The start and finish sections run on four-lane highways where the curbside lane is closed to traffic. The middle section uses quieter country roads. Terrain is moderate to hilly with long rolling climbs and descents. Turns are marked with pavement arrows and directional signs, and intersections are managed by police and volunteers.
The run is a two-loop 3 mile course that begins and returns to the aquatic center each lap. Most of the route is on pavement with about a quarter mile of hard packed dirt on each loop.
