American River Parkway Half Marathon
The American River Parkway Half Marathon is an annual community race held April 25, 2026 at William B Pond Recreational Area in Carmichael, California. The event offers separate courses for runners and walkers that follow a flat, shaded route through old-growth oak forests, green meadows, and riparian habitat along the American River Parkway.
The event emphasizes on-course support and entertainment. Organizers provide numerous aid stations with ice-cold water and Gatorade, live bands positioned along both courses, a bag pipe processional at the start, and a Mariachi band in the finish area. Finishers receive a personalized medal and a bottle of ice-cold water, and a post-race lunch featuring a meat or vegetarian Parkway Wrap, fresh fruit, and a cookie.
The race has an established fundraising focus. It was among the first half marathons to donate proceeds to the American River Parkway and, over nearly two decades, has contributed cumulative donations in excess of $400,000. These funds have supported habitat restoration, invasive plant removal, trash cleanup, interactive nature trails for children, and multiple drinking fountain installations with additional fountains planned for 2026.
Event distances and options include:
- Half marathon run course
- Half marathon walk course
- 5K run and walk
