Amberaid and Petit Raid
Amberaid and Petit Raid are trail races in the Amber Valley, Derbyshire, near the eastern edge of the Peak District. Both races are based at Ashover Village Hall, where free parking is available.
- 31 mile Amberaid route, figure of eight through Amber Valley
- 20 mile Petit Raid, northern loop of the Amberaid
The 31 mile Amberaid route traces a figure of eight across rural terrain, with climbs, descents, open views and woodland trails. The Petit Raid follows the northern loop of the Amberaid and covers 20 miles of the same area. The route is largely unmarked; a couple of trickier navigation sections are marked. Organisers provide route notes and GPX files, and a paper map is recommended as backup.
The event carries a 9 hour time limit. Runners on the Amberaid route must have left CP2 by 12.30pm; those arriving later will be redirected to the Petit Raid route.
Checkpoints: every checkpoint supplies water. CP1 Tupton is at 7 miles (both routes). CP2 Wessington is at 13.5 miles (both routes). CP3 Fritchley is at 20 miles (Amberaid only). CP4 Wessington is at 25.5 miles (Amberaid only).
Every finisher receives a medal. Prizes are awarded to the first male and first female in each race. Light refreshments are available at the finish. Medic cover is provided on the course and at race headquarters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
