Event Details
This event is the 14th annual Alive and Running VA 5K Fun Run/Walk. It is held at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center on Armstrong Road in Battle Creek, Michigan. The event offers two participation options: a live, in-person 5K Run/Walk and a 5K Run/Walk Virtual Event.
Course Information
The live 5K course is located on the VA campus. It starts in the parking lot at the entrance to the medical center. The route goes up a main hill and loops around the historic campus twice before finishing back at the start.
Event Features and Rules
The event is timed. Runners start first, followed by walkers. Children and strollers are permitted, though children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Dogs are not allowed, but service dog inquiries can be directed to the race administrator.
Registration and Fees
Registration opens on March 1, 2026. Fees vary:
- Online early bird registration is $15 through July 1, 2026.
- The fee increases to $20 from July 2 through September 11.
- Race day registration is $30.
All registrations must be completed online via computer or phone; no paper registrations are accepted on site. Mail-in registration is also available with specific deadlines and postmark requirements.
Packet Pickup
Packet pickup for the live event is scheduled at the VA entrance:
- Friday, September 11, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
- Saturday, September 12, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
Virtual Event Details
Participants in the virtual event can complete a 5K distance anywhere between September 12 and October 3, 2026. Times are submitted online. Virtual participants still receive a race T-shirt and can collect it via the scheduled drive-through packet pickup.
Additional Information
The event is held in collaboration with community partner Gryphon Place and aims to raise awareness for suicide prevention within military, veteran, and youth populations. A race T-shirt is guaranteed for online registrations received by September 1, 2026; shirts for later registrants are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
