Alger Heights Halloween 5k : Grand Rapids, MI
The Alger Heights Halloween 5k is a volunteer-led, neighborhood-focused fun run held in Grand Rapids on Saturday October 31, 2026. The event centers on a chip-timed 5k course that passes through the Alger Heights neighborhood during peak fall colors. Participants may run, jog, walk, or stroll, and all 5k entries receive chip timing with live results and age-group placements published online; timing is provided by a professional timing organization.
The event is part of a larger neighborhood gathering that includes a Community Costume Contest with on-site photo booth next to registration; no race registration is required to enter the costume contest. Prizes are awarded in categories for best individual under 18, best individual over 18, best group (2 to 3 people), best group (4 or more people), and a prize for the best neighborhood cheer section along the course.
A separate Neighborhood Cheering Contest divides the route into five sections: GREEN (Alger/Almont to Walsh), BLUE (Walsh), ORANGE (Union/Mulford), LAVENDER (College/Hoyt/Union) and BROWN (Ottillia/Blain). Judging criteria include participation, enthusiasm, creativity and costumes.
Free parking is available with respect for posted signs and household access; on-course parking restrictions apply during the event.
