Alger Heights Halloween 5k
The Alger Heights Halloween 5k is a volunteer led, neighborhood focused 5k held in the Alger Heights area of Grand Rapids on October 31, 2026. The event frames itself as a "small town in a big city" gathering that aims to include a wide range of participants and to support local community initiatives. All 5k participants are chip timed as they run through the scenic Alger Heights neighborhood during peak fall colors.
The 5k is part of a larger neighborhood gathering with a number of free activities open to everyone that do not require race registration. These include a Community Costume Contest, a Neighborhood Cheer Contest, trick or treating in the Alger Heights Business District, and a special Eastern & Alger pop up market.
To enter the Community Costume Contest, participants visit the photo booth next to registration to have a picture taken prior to the start of the race. Prizes are awarded at the conclusion of the awards ceremony in categories for best individual under 18, best individual over 18, best group (2-3), best group (4 or more), and a prize for the best neighborhood cheer section along the course.
Registration details provided by the organizer list an opening date of January 1, 2026, a closing date of May 25, 2026, and a registration fee of $30.00. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
