Alger Heights Halloween 5k
The Alger Heights Halloween 5k is a volunteer led, neighborhood focused event held in the Alger Heights neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 31, 2026. Described as a "small town in a big city" event, it aims to include a wide range of participants and support local community betterment. The 2026 edition is the 14th running of the event.
The main race distance is 3.1 Miles and all 5k participants are chip timed as they run through the neighborhood during peak fall colors. Participants may run, jog, walk, or stroll, and many wear costumes.
The 5k is part of a larger neighborhood gathering that includes a Community Costume Contest and a Neighborhood Cheer Contest. The Community Costume Contest does not require race registration; a photo booth located next to registration is available for contest photos taken before the event. Prizes are awarded at the conclusion of the awards ceremony in categories including best individual under 18, best individual over 18, best group (2-3), best group (4 or more), and best Neighborhood cheer section along the course.
