AKT Summer 5K/10K - July 4, 2026
AKT hosts a non-competitive 5K and 10K on the Mount Vernon Trail. The event is open to walkers and runners and raises funds for the Samuel Kwarteng Memorial Scholarship. All revenue and donations go directly to the scholarship fund.
The race is self-timed; participants are responsible for tracking their own start and finish times. All participants receive a race bib, a custom race shirt, and a race medal. T-shirt sizes are guaranteed for registrations completed before June 26, 2026; extras will be ordered but are not guaranteed for later registrants.
Distances:
- 5K (3.1 miles) - out-and-back with the turnaround at Cedar Knoll in Fort Hunt Park.
- 10K (6.2 miles) - out-and-back with the turnaround at Collingwood Picnic Area in Fort Hunt Park.
The course begins and ends at Mile 0 of the Mount Vernon Trail, near the Mount Vernon Estate entrance and the George Washington Memorial Parkway, and follows the paved trail with views of the Potomac River. A small designated parking lot at the trailhead is free and first-come, first-served; overflow street parking is available on East Abingdon Drive and Slaters Lane, subject to posted restrictions.
Race day registration is available with on-site fees. Packet pickup and check-in are required before participation and waivers must be signed. A bag drop will be located near the start and finish; items are left at the owner’s risk. In severe weather organizers will notify registrants and post updates on social media.
