Akahai (Aloha Racing)
Akahai is a running event held Saturday, January 16, 2027, at Wai Kai / Nimitz Beach in Ewa Beach on Oahu’s leeward coast. The event includes multiple measured road courses that run through the Hoakalei development and along Keone’ula Boulevard, with views of Hoakalei Country Club and the Leeward Coast.
Distances
- 5K (100% asphalt)
- 10K (mostly asphalt with some adjacent soft surface and concrete)
- Half Marathon (mix of asphalt, adjacent soft surface, and concrete)
The course starts on Keone’ula Boulevard with a first turnaround near Waipana Street. Routes pass by Wai Kai and Hoakalei Country Club; the 5K returns to the finish on the start route, the 10K turns back shortly after Geiger Road, and the half marathon continues toward Coral Sea Road for a longer straightaway before returning.
Event features include measured courses (each measured at least three times), multiple aid stations roughly one mile apart, on-course and finish-line medical support, disposable timing chips, electronic results, free race photos, finisher medals, cooling towels, gear check, and porta-potties. Race shirts and post-race meals (breakfast burritos and chocolate milk; vegetarian options) are optional add-ons. The event benefits the Hawaii Parkinson Association. Wai Kai requires sustainability practices; participants are asked to avoid single-use plastic containers.
Entry fees vary by distance and registration period, with pricing that ranges from $35 to $115. Discounts are available for Hawaii residents, military, youth, seniors, and groups.
