Age-Graded 4-Miler

The Age-Graded 4-Miler is an annual race held on July 4 to mark Independence Day and the running club's founding. The event distance is 4 miles and the course is located across the Clara Barton Parkway from 9500 MacArthur Blvd. in West Bethesda, Maryland.

Starts are staggered by gender and age using specialized handicap tables based on age-group records so that runners finish close together. The overall winner is the first person to cross the finish line, regardless of chip time. Official results will also show each runner's chip time.

The course runs over a narrow shared path used by walkers, cyclists and others. Participants should share the trail and slow in crowded conditions. Dogs are not allowed on the course. The club discourages the use of headphones.

Registration opens March 23 and closes at 8:00 p.m. the night before the race; Park Service rules prohibit on-site registration on race day. The registration fee for the listed event is $10.00. Organizers rely on volunteers to staff the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
