City of Newport Half Marathon
The City of Newport Half Marathon is a road running event covering 13.1 miles that passes through the heart of Newport and the historic village of Caerleon. The route follows sections of the River Usk pathways and passes through the city centre, showcasing local landmarks.
The event features chip timing and a bespoke medal for finishers. Organisers present a welcoming atmosphere and provide information for participants, spectators and volunteers through dedicated race guides and preparation pages.
The race supports St David’s Hospice Care. Proceeds are used to fund hospice services across South East Wales and Lower Powys. Since 2013 the event has helped raise more than £766,874 for the hospice. The race attracts over 2,500 runners.
St David’s Hospice Care reports recent service figures connected to its work: 3,736 patients supported in the last year, 2,234 new patient referrals to Clinical Nurse Specialists, and over 40,000 hours of Hospice at Home care. Additional figures include 305 admissions to the in-patient hospice with an average length of stay of 11 days, 1,925 attendances at two-day hospices, 654 new Welfare Rights Team referrals, and 649 bereavement support sessions for adults.
Event partners and sponsors include KLA, University of South Wales, Core Highways, Newport City Council, South Wales Argus, Speedy Hire and Contact Radio.
