About the race
Absolute Beach in San Diego is a beach-based hybrid fitness race held along the Coronado coastline at 5000 CA-75, Coronado, CA 92118. The course includes approximately 6 km of running on sand and multiple functional workout stations placed along the route.
Before the course begins, athletes complete a pre race StrengthErg sequence: a 2 minute max effort leg press, 2 minute rest, a 2 minute max effort chest press on Concept2 StrengthErg, then a final 2 minute rest. Performance on the pre race StrengthErg affects finish time; every 10 kg/m achieved deducts 1 second from the final race time. The StrengthErg is completed without a weight vest.
Course stations and efforts include:
- SkiErg 700 m
- Weighted lunges 70 m
- RowErg 700 m
- BikeErg 1200 m
- Sandbag sled drag 150 m
- Over the shoulder medicine ball toss 30 reps
- Suitcase carry 150 m per side
- Multiple running segments totaling about 6 km
The Absolute Division requires athletes to wear a weight vest for the entire race except the StrengthErg. Vest weights are Men 20 lbs and Women 12 lbs. Station weights vary by division; examples include medicine ball 40 lbs for women and 60 lbs for men, and sandbag 40 lbs for women and 60 lbs for men.
An optional pre race performance test can be submitted using a 1 mile run, 1000 m RowErg, and 1000 m SkiErg. Combined times are used to group athletes for start assignments and must be uploaded no later than 10 days prior to race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
