Above the Clouds 5K
The Above the Clouds 5K is an annual run and walk event held on the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake, Virginia. Organized by SPARC, the event is in its fourth year and serves to raise awareness for brain cancer while honoring the memory of Dr. Albert K. Lin. A portion of the registration fees is donated to the National Brain Tumor Society to support research and patient advocacy.
The event offers several participation options:
- Above the Clouds 5K: A timed race on the trail with prizes for top finishers.
- Above the Clouds - Virtual 5K: A remote participation option for those unable to attend in person.
- Kid's 100 Yard Dash: A short distance event for children.
All 5K participants, including virtual runners, receive a race shirt and a finisher medal. Early registration discounts are available for those who sign up before May 7, 2026. Children participating in the dash also receive a special item upon completion.
Post-race activities include food and beverages available for purchase from local vendors such as Flippin' Hangry and Bear House Coffee. Packet pickup is scheduled for the day before the race at a local sporting goods store in Chesapeake; there is no packet pickup available on the morning of the event.
