Abbott Chicago 5K : event overview
The Abbott Chicago 5K is a city road race held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Grant Park, Chicago. The measured course covers 5K (3.1 miles) and winds through downtown Chicago, passing recognizable city landmarks. A single on-course aid station is provided at approximately the halfway point offering water, medical support and toilet facilities.
Participants are assigned start corrals based on projected pace per mile; participants may move back to a different corral as space allows. Timing checkpoints are located at the start and finish lines, with digital clocks showing elapsed race time and mile markers positioned at each mile. The event enforces a 45 minute time requirement to complete the full course, equivalent to maintaining a 15 minute per mile pace; participants who finish outside this time may not be recorded as official finishers or receive full on-course support.
Gear check is not available; participants are responsible for storing personal items offsite prior to the race. Bib numbers are non-transferable, must be fastened with four pins to the front of an outer layer, must remain visible, and should not be altered; the back of the bib should include emergency contact and medical information.
Logistics notes include recommended use of public transportation on race day and available parking at the Grant Park South Garage. The event includes an Adaptive Program open to athletes with permanent intellectual or physical impairments. The event supports Tedy’s Team with a two dollar donation for each participant who crosses the finish line. Finisher medals can be personalized with an iTAB that is mailed after the race.
