AAZK Race Against Extinction
The AAZK Race Against Extinction is an annual event held at the Hitchcock Nature Center in Honey Creek, Iowa. This 17th edition coincides with Earth Day celebrations and focuses on supporting global conservation efforts. All proceeds from the event are directed to the Peregrine Fund, an organization dedicated to bird of prey conservation.
The event offers two distinct outdoor activities:
- ~5k Trail Run (4 Miles)
- Nature Hike (~2 Miles)
Participants travel through the trails of the nature center. The event is dog friendly, allowing participants to bring their pets along for the run or hike. Registration include a t-shirt for those who sign up by specific deadlines. Following the activities, there is an award ceremony featuring music, food, and beverages.
Unique Earth-friendly medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the overall category and within 10 year age increments. Door prizes are also distributed during the post-race gathering. For those interested in supporting the conservation cause without participating in the race, options include purchasing a shirt separately or making a direct donation to the Peregrine Fund.
