9/11 Run to Remember
The 9/11 Run to Remember is an annual event held in Downtown Cartersville, Georgia, to honor the memory of the events of September 11. The 2026 race marks the 6th annual running of the event and coincides with the 25th anniversary of the national tragedy. Produced in collaboration with the Cartersville Fire Department and the Cartersville Police Department, the race serves to recognize the efforts of first responders. Proceeds from the event benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
The event features the following distances:
- 5K running race
- Ghost Runner (support category for non-participants)
The 5K course begins and ends in Friendship Plaza, adjacent to the Downtown Gazebo. The route takes runners south on Erwin Street before turning onto Cassville Road toward the Cartersville Fire Department Station #1. In a unique feature of the course, participants run directly through a fire truck bay at the station, where they are greeted by firefighters and first responders at a water station. The return leg follows the same path back to the finish line in Friendship Plaza.
The morning begins with a presentation of the colors by the Cartersville Fire Department Honor Guard. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female winners, top masters, and the top three finishers in various age categories ranging from 10-under to 70 & over. Parking is available at the Bartow County Courthouse on West Cherokee Avenue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
