Event Details
This is the seventh annual 8 Hours of Brown County, organized by the Indiana Trail Running Association (ITRA). The event takes place at Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. Participants can choose between two registration options: 8 Hours of Brown County -- Run Only/No Camping and 8 Hours of Brown County -- Run + Camping.
The Course
The course consists of trail loops. The main loop is a single-track trail of about 6 miles. A second, shorter loop is about 3 miles. Both loops start and finish at the Recreation Center next to Rally Camp 1. Participants can run, walk, or hike the loops as many times as they wish during the 8-hour window.
Support & Format
There is a staffed aid station at the start/finish area and a fill-up station approximately 2 miles into the main loop. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hydration containers. The event is described as a "glorified training run" rather than a formal race. Special awards are given for the male and female participants who record the most mileage on their GPS watches during the event.
Camping & Community
For those who register for the camping option, the weekend includes reserved camping at Rally Camp 1 from Friday evening through Sunday. On Friday night, the Recreation Center is open with food and drink, and there is an optional night run on the short loop.
Registration & Fees
The run and camping are free for Indiana Trail Running Association (ITRA) members; the membership discount is applied at checkout. Non-members are charged a fee for participation. Proceeds benefit the Indiana Trail Running Association, a nonprofit organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
