18TH Annual 5K Walk/Run for Cancer Center
The event is an 18th annual non-competitive 5K walk/run held in the Griffin Hospital neighborhood in Derby, Connecticut, at 350 Seymour Avenue. It is described as family-friendly and has taken place each year since 2009. The event is held rain or shine.
Activities on the day include check-in and same-day registration, opening remarks, an award presentation, and the 5K walk/run itself. Registration for the event includes a race t-shirt; t-shirt size is guaranteed for participants who register by October 2. Participants may register individually or as part of a team and may fundraise in support of the event.
All proceeds are dedicated to providing personalized cancer care and to helping ease the financial burden faced by Griffin Hospital’s cancer patients during treatment. Fundraising is recognized through several awards: the William C. Powanda Memorial Award for the top fundraising individual, the Team Synergy Award for the top fundraising team, and the Make It Happen Award for the individual or team that best embodies the spirit of the 5K.
Sponsors and community partners are listed for the event, and the event description notes that mailing donations by check is an accepted option for those who prefer that method. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
