5 Peaks - Heart Lake
This event takes place at Heart Lake Conservation Park on Saturday, October 3, and offers multiple trail race distances. Heart Lake is a spring-fed kettle lake whose shape is roughly like a heart; the lake is stocked with hundreds of rainbow trout each year.
Shaded trails run through wooded areas and showcase fall colours. Maps, elevation profiles and aid-station locations are provided for each distance; these details may change based on trail conditions up to race day.
Distances offered:
- Kid's Run : 3 km
- Sport Run or Hike : 7.5 km
- Enduro Run or Hike : 14.6 km
- Grit Run : 22.5 km
Event logistics include washroom facilities at the start/finish area, limited free parking in the Birchmount parking area near the Wild Wetland Splash and Pool, and spectator viewing from the start/finish. The event is cup free; water and electrolyte drink are available at the start, finish and at one or more aid stations. Participants planning to be out longer than an hour are asked to carry a receptacle for liquids and calories.
Course restrictions: no dogs, no headphones, no strollers or baby joggers, and no nordic walking poles. Awards are given to the top three finishers in each gender and age category for each distance, plus the top three male and female overall; all awards must be picked up at the race and will not be mailed.
