5 Peaks - Canmore Nordic Centre #1
This event is part of the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series and takes place at the Canmore Nordic Centre, which hosted the nordic events of the 1988 Winter Olympics. The venue offers a trail network of singletrack and double track with panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies.
Distances on offer include:
- Kids - 1 km
- Kids - 3 km
- Sport - 7.1 km (run or hike)
- Enduro - 16.1 km (run or hike)
- Grit - 22 km (run)
The start and finish are located at the main stadium. The course includes steep climbs, technical and flowy singletrack, and loops through lower and upper trail sections, providing opportunities to see other participants on the course. Water and electrolyte drink are available at the start, finish, and at one or more aid stations depending on the course. The event is cup free so participants planning to be out longer than an hour should carry a container for fluids and nutrition.
Logistics: packet pickup is offered at two locations prior to race day, washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area, and parking is provided in main and overflow lots near the Day Lodge. A Kananaskis Pass is required for parking and is not included in registration. Volunteer opportunities are available. For safety, dogs, headphones, strollers or baby joggers, and nordic walking poles are not permitted on course. Participants in the Sport, Enduro, and Grit distances are required to carry bear spray; children in the 1 km and 3 km events are not required to carry bear spray and additional volunteers carrying bear spray will assist those courses.
Awards and merch: finisher medals and other swag can be purchased through the registration platform or on site while supplies last. Optional wooden finisher medals made in Canada are offered. Medals are awarded to the top three finishers by gender in each age category and to the top three overall. Awards must be picked up at the event and will not be mailed.
