The Banff Marathon

The Banff Half Marathon and 10K events take place in Alberta, located within Canada's first National Park. The route begins in Banff Central Park and transitions through various geographical and historical stages. Participants travel past the Vermilion Lakes, along the Legacy Trail, and up the Bow Valley Parkway. The return journey follows the Bow River, leading to a finish line in downtown Banff.

The event offers the following distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10 km
  • Free Kids Run

The course is set in the Rocky Mountains but features a relatively flat terrain with slightly rolling sections. For those unable to attend in person, virtual run options and courses are available.

The weekend functions as a sports festival, incorporating several activities beyond the main races. These include a Sport Expo, Yoga in the Park, and a Shake Out Run. Participants have access to various amenities such as race pack pick-up, a race day gear check, and event photography. As the event is held in a protected wilderness area, the organization provides specific information regarding wildlife safety, sustainability practices, and carbon offset programs.
